Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS)

Since 2022, Nichols St., in collaboration with Strategy Matters, has partnered with the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and its Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Office to support the organization’s ongoing efforts to embed JEDI principles into all aspects of its work and culture. Our collaboration began with a comprehensive, organization-wide JEDI assessment that identified strengths, challenges, and opportunities for deeper, systemic change. Building on that foundation, we have facilitated UCS’s annual JEDI retreats over the past two years, helping to shape, update, and operationalize strategic plans that guide the JEDI Office’s work across the organization.

Most recently, we designed and facilitated a three-day retreat that grounded participants in UCS’s JEDI history, reflected on the past year’s strategic goals, and engaged the JEDI team in charting a clear path forward. Through a combination of reflection exercises, force field analysis, and strategy sessions, the group developed an updated 2025 Strategic Plan. This plan focuses on advancing stronger JEDI outcomes across UCS, expanding internal cohesion around JEDI work, and fully integrating a JEDI lens into organizational planning and decision-making.

Our longstanding partnership with UCS continues to support its commitment to building a healthy, just, and inclusive future—both within the organization and across the broader scientific community.
